JanuaryAnother New Year! We should be fairly used to them by now. After all we've had over 2000 of them since the birth of Jesus. Yet New Years mark a time of both uncertainty and expectation in the lives of people. For some New Year is the time when they can leave the any failures or disappointments behind them. No matter how many times they have stumbled in the past "this time it is going to be different". For others New Year is a fearful time. What is going to happen? Will it be good or bad? Financial pressures often come to light as the New Year begins and with some of the economic forecasts we hear, many may be trembling at the thought of 2009. The Bible however gives a different perspective, because though the years change and though circumstances change, God does not. Moses after spending time in the desert, along with the rest of the people of Israel, does not entertain the prospect of entering a fertile and abundant land as either the height of opportunity, or the biggest threat imaginable. For Moses the only question that concerns him is whether God will go with him or not. If God doesn't then Moses doesn't want to go, his security lies in God's presence. (Ex 33:14-17) As people called by God to be His, our security comes from the same source as Moses, the presence of God. As we look to 2009, with all its challenges and opportunities, the request we need to make to God is simply "God will you go with us in 2009 because if you do we can face it with confidence". May we know and rest securely in God's presence this year, as we walk together with God. Andy & Hannah

OctoberI like food! This builds on the impression that Foxfield school has, that my mornings are spent eating toast in the Rainbow. And this month my job will give me plenty of opportunity to encounter this particular blessing of God. On the 8th of October, and for the 5 following Wednesdays, we will be holding the Pathways course. This is a chance for people to explore the questions that they would want to ask about Christianity in a relaxed environment. And guess what? Tea, cake and nibbles are provided! Then on the 11th October we have our harvest supper. A chance to give thanks to God, a chance to chat with one another, and a chance to eat together as well. And all this following the excellent barbeque we had at our church fun day. Now while this may sound like unrestrained gluttony, it is actually a picture of the kingdom of God. Jesus often describes heaven as a banquet, a place where there is feasting on good things and with good relationships. And Jesus is concerned that the places at the heavenly banquet should be filled. The good things are provided, there is ample for everyone, they are not to go to waste. We have something wonderful to share in Jesus Christ and our call is to share it. The good news is not to be kept a secret. There are many things that we do as a church to share this good news, but this month we have a specific opportunity - to invite and bring along a non-Christian friend to pathways. Why should they starve when God has laid on a feast for them? Andy & Hannah
